You MUST get a White Mountain Apache Tribe permit in ADVANCE! The self-pay kiosk is no longer available at the river.
The permit to boat/camp is $25/person/day. Hiking/camping permit is $15/person/day. Purchase your permit online here.
A river permit can be purchased in person only at the Kmart in Show Low.
Wilderness permits from the Tonto National Forest are required for trips which launch between March 1st and May 15th.

Beta for private boaters in the Wilderness: 500 cfs (that is as low as I would run a 14? gear boat) we recommend running from the one day take out at Hoodoo (10 river miles below the bridge, 7 by road) because the river is more channelized from that point on. 12? and smaller rafts, IK’s and kayaks can run the Wilderness stretch to 200 cfs. With an uphill 1 mile hike one can take out at Horseshoe bend just past Cherry Creek and eliminate the 15 miles of flat water to Hwy 288.
